Key Challenge
Traditionally a local and family-focused festival, the client wanted to retain the family-friendly feel while appealing to younger millennials and at a national scale. Their website and registration system needed an overhaul. There was also a branding challenge to make sure ROMP and what was then The International Bluegrass Music Museum remained connected.
Approach
There’s an old cabin in the park near the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in Owensboro, Kentucky. It’s always held intrigue. I wanted to double down on the energy of this place. We not only featured the cabin in the website’s visuals, but we planned a “midnight” show at the cabin by candle and firelight. We then designed a night scene and day scene for the website by tracking IP addresses and local time. We also needed to make the visual landscape appeal to a millennial audience, who the museum expected to become an increasing number of ticket sales. We did this by making the logo more detailed and iconic, less cartoonish, and expanded the wings to create a more dramatic impact on stage, also indicating the familial feeling of the festival by “holding everyone within its wings.”
