Tom Kundig Collection

The Tom Kundig Collection, featuring two HANK pieces, at ICFF in New York City.

“I believe a true architectural experience is one that operates on both a macro and a micro scale. When design is done well, you may not be able to articulate or identify how it’s operating, but you just know it’s a holistic experience. That’s one reason I’m interested in this smaller-scale element of touch – it contributes to the overall experience of architecture.” —Tom Kundig

After seeing some of my work in a local magazine, Olson Kundig Architects contacted me as a potential collaborator on the Tom Kundig Collection. They were interested in a material that would change the more it was touched. I presented the idea of using un-colored and untreated vegatable-tanned leather for their door pulls, which will darken and patina from hand oils, eventually turning a deep brown. I also designed a leather pouch that adheres to steel furniture using hidden neodymium magnets. All leather pieces are cut and stitched by hand.
